Our Anchor in Christ

“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:7

Drought and famine-related stress has led to an increase in cattle-rustling and banditry in Turkana and neighboring West Pokot

An email arrives recounting a deep-seated, long running tribal conflict with roots in the traditions and cultures of each tribe. Along with it, the recognition that the only possible way forward is the peace of Christ. And a request: to begin airing the OneTribe radio programming within the conflicted area of North West Kenya.

The email is sent by the CEO of a small radio station within the conflicted lands of the Turkana and Pokot people. He states profoundly, “This Turkana-Pokot conflict is what many here call an endemic problem. And for this, many turn away in despair and say it may never be brought to an end. But we believe that as children of God, called to be peacemakers, we must be found doing something. And above all, we are convinced that in Christ, reconciliation can be achieved. We know OneTribe has elements of the gospel, and no one exposed to the gospel remains the same”.

His hope for lasting peace, his anchor, remains in the transforming power of Christ alone.

Our Hope in Christ

But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
— 1 Peter 5:10

OneTribe envoy, Naser Moses, explaining the hope and power of Christ’s peace to a group of Sudanese refugees in Uganda

As the Sudanese civil war that began in April 2023 continues, over eight million refugees from Khartoum, Darfur, and other areas within Sudan have fled their homes to neighboring countries — and to the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. Amidst such mass displacement, OneTribe envoys welcome opportunities to offer assurance and hope rooted in Christ to those suffering tragedy and loss.

Several years ago during the genocidal campaign in Darfur, OneTribe envoy Naser Moses and his family were among those who fled the region. Now, Naser serves groups of displaced Sudanese making their way from renewed war and violent conflict in Darfur to the refugee camps in Uganda. Day after day, he faithfully comforts these and others with the lasting hope that deeply grounds his own life — hope found in the transforming power of Christ and the peace that comes from knowing Him. Many of the refugees Naser reaches are hearing for the first time that peace does not start with governments, that it begins and continues with God at center. And, importantly, they have a vital role in practicing and protecting His peace in their own lives and families.

“Oh, peace! I did not have any idea that I could be part of peace building. But today, I have learned that the source of peace is God!”

- Sudanese refugee in Arua, Uganda

OneTribe envoys are also reaching many within the Nuba Mountains in Sudan. Remote and inaccessible, the Nuba Mountains serves as a place of refuge for those fleeing oppression and violence. The region is comprised of more than 90 different ethnic groups, each with its unique culture and language. Many of these groups are considered unreached with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

OneTribe has joined other Christ-centered ministries under the Greater Nuba Action Coalition, offering biblically based peace building alongside of trauma healing and livelihood skills training (including enhanced farming methods).
